In this interview conducted by LexLatin, our partner Alexis V. Herrera Jr. and our associate Adolfo González-Ruiz explain the guarantee and procedures behind the awarding of projects for Public-Private Partnerships in Panama.

“In the Panamanian context, the implementation of PPPs has been a recent phenomenon. Alexis Herrera Jr., partner at Icaza, González-Ruiz & Alemán, an expert in public procurement and M&A, highlights that to date, only one project has been awarded under this modality.

However, he points out that this first step has sparked the interest of new multinational companies that have decided to bid for the first time in the Caribbean country. When asked about the market’s relationship with PPP-driven projects, Herrera comments:

“It is very difficult to determine whether the relationship will be favorable or unfavorable. So far, it has been quite favorable in terms of the number of interested companies.”
